Lightning Data and Forecast.
Over the past two weeks we have been reviewing our lightning data and during recent storms in the area it was noted that the previous supplier for our lightning data was not detect many lightning strikes and occasionally not detecting any.
It was therefore decided that the page needed updating and a new supplier of data was needed. After reviewing and monitoring several websites that provide data and operate near Gosport, Worthing Weather was chosen. This website was chosen on the basis that it was common for their equipment to detect 300 more strikes than other stations. It was also noticed that when their data was cross referenced with official websites their accuracy with regards to range and bearing of strikes was very high. It has come to my attention that their equipment is mounted at 260 ft (80m). This height is what enables their data to triumph over other stations.
We have also added a lightning forecast page to our website and is updated frequently throughout the day.
If you like the lightning data we provide on our website then why not visit The Lightning Ring and rate the providers website and leave comments for the provider.

1) We will be going off-line for a short time during May to enable us to upgrade the homepage. We will let visitors know via Facebook when we intend to go off-line and the exact timing of when we will be back on-line. The upgrade will include soil moisture and soil temperature data. The sensors are currently being tested and we will make the data from these sensors available once testing is complete.
2) We are looking at moving our Solar and UV sensors from their current locations in order to improve the readings. This will involve these sensors being taken off-line for a short period of time but the remainder of the weather station will remain on-line and updates will continue to be posted on our website.
3) We are looking at providing a free service which will enable us to send our 7 day forecast out as an email each night. The email will be sent at approximately 19:35 which is five minutes after the latest forecast run. We hope to have this service up and running by Saturday 7th April. If you would like to receive our forecast as an email please contact us either by using the contact form on our website or by emailing: gosportweather@yahoo.co.uk
